Mark-Recapture Method: sampling technique used to estimate wildlife populations
1. Animals captured in traps
3. Captured animals released
4. Wait a few days for captured animals to mix with unmarked members of the population.
5. Set traps again
6. Count the number of tagged animals that are tagged from the second trapping.
7. Calculate the percentage of animals that are tagged from the second trapping.
8. This percentage of the population equals the number of individuals originally tagged.
Divide the marked number (originally)/percentage (as a decimal) = Total population size
Or
N = number marked x total catch second time/ number
of marked recaptures
